The Rules
Roller derby is a fast-paced, high-energy sport that combines speed, strategy, and big hits! While traditionally played on either a banked track or flat track, Sunshine City Roller Derby is unique—we play banked track roller derby (RDCL) rules on a flat track as we work toward building our own banked track facility.
The rules and gameplay remain the same, but instead of skating on an inclined track, we compete on a flat surface. This allows us to train, compete, and grow while preparing for the transition to a banked track in the future.
Below, you'll find a FAQ to help you understand the basics of roller derby, including how the game is played, scoring, penalties, and key rules. Let’s get rolling!
